(sorry for the bad quality. just quickly snapped with my phone...)
one of my goals for 2015 was to get started with dyeing yarn naturally by myself, using plant materials i find or have around the house. it is absolutely refreshing to get started on a set goal as early as in january.
i had this moment on friday morning when i just started peeling onions and setting up a dye bath with them. some leftover baby merino wool was used (along with a tiny bit of grey lett lopi yarn). i cannot emphasize enough how very pleased i am with the result!
now i am on the lookout for more dyeing options, plants and flowers i might grow in the garden that work well for dyeing. and i need to get undyed yarn, of course! always an excuse for yarn shopping ;-) i think my next batch will be dyed with beets...
have a good start to your week!

Goodness those colours are amazing! I have just gotten into dyeing, using dyes though. Little man and I did some wool roving in the fall, and a few weeks ago dyed some play silks.
So interested in the natural dying and can't wait to try it. Hope you will keep sharing as you try different things.
Have a great week!
We have done some experiments using different foods to make watercolours but I have not tried dyeing yarn yet but should give it a go! So fun!
it looks a like your cooking a pasta dish :) can't wait to see what else you come up with, beets sound great.
Such a rich beautiful color!
looks like fun and I hope you share more when you get more natural dyes :)
